DVLA Licence Codes / National Insurance Numbers
As we mentioned a while back, due to the DVLA abolishing the paper counterpart we now need our customers to either obtain their unique drivers code from the DVLA/Government site, or to know their national insurance number at the time of collection so that we can log onto the site and check the licence details.
Second Pieces Of I.D.
Just a quick reminder that we need TWO pieces of I.D. which contain both proof of address and to be dated within the last eight weeks to do any hire.
These can be bank / credit card statements, utility bills, tax letters etc.
We know alot of people have gone paperless and your choices may be limited, but we can also accept a printed document or even be shown the information through a smart phone or tablet device.
Are Your Driving Licence Details Up To Date?
We still get customers arriving who have not updated their licence details with the DVLA, which could restrict your ability to hire a vehicle from us.

This is FREE to do, so there's no reason not to, plus you can be fined up to £1000 if you don't keep your records up to date.
Additionally please check that your photocard licence is still valid (section 4b), because if this has expired when you come to collect your vehicle we will not be able to do the hire.

Can all customers please check the expiry date on the photocard driving licence to make sure it is still valid.
They do need to be renewed every 10 years and it appears that the DVLA has notified some but not all.
Also can you please make sure the address is correct on your licence because this can also affect the ability to hire any vehicle.
Please be aware that if you are using one of our vans to visit the tip you do need to obtain a FREE permit from your local council.
This can be done by either ringing 0300 123 6781 or by filling out the online form on the council website but do allow a few days for the permit to be delivered.
Also be aware they will NOT allow any vehicles with more than 4 wheels to enter any of the tips.
DVLA Licence Checks - UPDATE
In anticipation of the DVLA abolishing the paper part of the current licence on the 8th June 2015, we will be required to check for any endorsements by using their online database.
To access this facility we do need our hirers to know their national insurance number at the time of collection or to have obtained a unique code in advance from the DVLA.

If you don't know your national insurance number for whatever reason, the only other way for us to do this check is by telephone on collection (not available Sundays), and this will be at a cost of £6 per check.
If for any reason we CAN NOT do the hire after checking with the DVLA (due to endorsements etc.) any monies already paid will not be refunded.
Along with the new licence checking system we will also require two additional pieces of I.D. with proof of address and dated within the last eight weeks before the hire date.
Changes To ½ Day Hire Times
From Monday the 20th April our times are changing for the ½ day hires.
Like normal they will only be available Monday to Thursday, with a limit of 50 miles, but the times will be either from 9am through to 12pm or 1pm through to 4pm.
These are strict times and will not be altered in any way.
Excess Mileage Charges
With immediate effect our excess mileage charges are changing.
The new rate is 10p per mile for the first 10% over the mileage limit and then 50p per mile thereafter.
For example if you hire a vehicle that has a 400 mile limit and you pass this, then the next 40 miles will be charged at 10p per mile and then every mile after that will be charged at 50p per mile.
Card Bookings / Payments
Due to a change in our banking and security systems unfortunately we cannot accept any reservations or payments by customers using any form of Top Up Cards or Electronic Use Only cards any more.
Can you please check that your card does not say 'Electronic Use Only' anywhere on the card as we will not be able to use it if it does.

As most of our customers are aware we do need a credit/debit card in order to reserve any vehicle.
We do take immediate payment to complete the booking and at this point it is non refundable.
If for whatever reason the card declines we will try to make contact to either make sure funds are available in that account or for you to supply different card details.
IF WE CANNOT CONTACT YOU THE BOOKING WILL NOT BE COMPLETED AND NO VEHICLE WILL BE RESERVED FOR YOU.
Please make sure that you have sufficient funds in your account before trying to make a booking to avoid any embarrassment.
